Steep or uneven steps at the front door are one of the most common reasons people stop going out. We rebuild them with a deeper tread of 600 to 800 millimetres and a riser of 90 to 150 millimetres, matched to how the person walks, and add steel handrails finished in anti-rust paint in the colour you choose.
Every job starts with a free home survey. We measure the rise, check the ground and drainage, and tell you whether steps, a ramp or both will work best for the space. Steps and rails qualify under the Mobility Aids Grant and the Housing Adaptation Grant, and our quote is itemised so it can go straight into the council application.

Kildare County Council Grants: Where Things Stand
- Applications paused. At the time of writing (September 2026) Kildare County Council has stopped taking new Housing Adaptation Grant and Mobility Aids Grant applications because of demand. Priority 1 and emergency cases are still processed, and Housing Aid for Older People is open for emergencies only.
- If you cannot wait. A straight stairlift can be fitted within a day or two as a private purchase or rented month to month, and reconditioned stairlifts start from €1,200. We can also quote the work now so your application is ready the day the scheme reopens.
- Already approved. If you have a grant letter and an OT report, send us both. We build to the OT list and give an itemised quote in the format the council asks for.
- Who to ask. Kildare County Council Housing Grants, 045 980 480 (phone clinic 10.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday), housinggrants@kildarecoco.ie, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas. Irish Stairlifts & Bathrooms is based at Unit C5/C6 Clane Business Park, Kilcock Road, Clane, Co. Kildare, W91 NF86. The showroom is open Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4pm, by appointment, so the products you want to see are ready when you arrive.
