Increase Your Safety

Falls, slips and trips tend to regularly occur in the bathroom, and a walk-in shower can give you the peace of mind that you need by knowing that you’ll be safer when using yours. We all want to feel safe and secure in our bathrooms, which is why a walk-in shower offers an ideal solution to anyone who is elderly, disabled, has mobility or movement issues, or is in a wheelchair.

A walk-in shower increases safety as there is no lip or step to the shower, so you are much less likely to trip when getting in and out of your shower. This also makes it easier to get into your shower space in a wheelchair, or with the help of a supporting frame. They also have slip-resistant tiles, meaning that you are less likely to slip and fall when showering.

Make Using Your Shower Easier

Walk-in showers also make using your shower easier, as you can enter them without having to climb over a lip or a step. This makes it easy for anyone to access your shower, and not have to worry about climbing into a bath or into a shower tray. No one wants to struggle to get into and use their own bathroom, which is where a walk-in shower can really help and transform your bathroom space.

They are completely wheelchair and mobility chair accessible, meaning that there is no need to install ramps to get into the showering space. You can also have additional safety features added to your walk-in shower, such as handles and grab bars so that you can feel safer and more secure and have your bathroom be more accessible for you.

Independence and More Space For Assistance if Needed

We all want to feel independent in our own homes and be able to use our bathroom spaces easily without a struggle. For those who are struggling to use their bathrooms, this can be very challenging both mentally and physically which is where a walk-in shower can help. They provide you with the independence that you need, and adequate washing facilities that you can use in your own home without support. Additionally, they are also more spacious, allowing for relatives or carers to assist if needed. As the entire room will become a shower, it makes it easier for others to help you if needed.

What to Look for When Purchasing a Walking Aid

Walking Aids

There comes a point in everyone’s lives where their body is simply unable to keep up with the rigour of everyday life. Our muscles slowly waste away, and everyday tasks take significantly longer to complete. Thankfully, there are ways in which to get around this – namely, by investing in a walking aid. Unfortunately, before coming to a decision regarding which is best, it is important that you research the various options currently on the market. Should this be slightly overwhelming for you, allow the ISB Mobility staff to offer some much-needed assistance.

What are the Prices?

Before you start to embark on this important journey, it is imperative that you decide on a budget, as this will heavily influence the type of product that you can opt for. Should you be operatively with a relatively limited set of funds, for example, it may be that you should start browsing through more basic units, such as wheel walkers with rubber ferrules. For those of you that are blessed with slightly better finances, you might wish to take a glance at the premium mobility scooters currently in circulation.

Does it Have Good Reviews?

The fact of the matter is that, in most circumstances, the product that you are entertaining the idea of purchasing has been around for an extended period. As such, there will have been a wide-variety of customers that have come before you, and formulated an opinion on the unit. Rather than simply disregard their thoughts, you should, at the very least, take them into account. They may inform you, for instance, whether the walking frame you are thinking of is height adjustable, or suitable for arthritic hands – this type of information could prove to be invaluable.

Is it Easily Transportable?

One things which elderly and disabled people must keep in mind when trawling the Internet for walking aids, is the transportability of their proposed investment. After all, it would be redundant to purchase a top-tier scooter, only to find that there is no way that it can fit into your current vehicle. Similarly, walking sticks which do not compactly fold up may not quite fit the bag which you routinely used when exploring the outside world. Though this may seem like a slightly trivial matter, the truth is that this is arguably the most important consideration on this list.

Why Buy From ISB Mobility?

You may be wondering, after having seen the vast number of mobility-related retailers currently operating in the country, why it is that you should entrust your health with us here at ISB Mobility. The fact of the matter is, besides the various types of walking aids that we are in possession of, we are well-known for providing an experience for our customers which can be characterised as being hassle-free. The History of the Walker

Have you ever wondered when the first walker or rollator was invented?

We did some research and found out some very interesting facts!

A walker (walking frame) or rollator is a tool for anyone suffering from Arthritis, lower and mid back pain, muscle weakness, decreased stamina, deteriorating stamina regardless of their age.

Walkers started appearing in the early 1950’s. The first US patent was awarded in 1953 to William Cribbes Robb, of Stretford, UK, for a device called “walking aid”, which had been filed with the British patent office in August 1949. Two variants with wheels were both awarded US patents in May 1957, and the first non-wheeled design that was called a “walker” was patented in 1965 by Elmer F. Ries of Cincinnati, Ohio. The first walker to resemble modern walkers was patented in 1970 by Alfred A. Smith of Van Nuys, California.
